Somehow, accidently, I found myself agreeing to assist a couple of adult volunteers who were planning a day camp for Girl Scouts at the Little House at Lakebottom Park for the first week in June. These two are long, long long time boosters, lovers of scouting, supporters of events for girls, encouragers of both girls and moms who want to be involved in Girl Scouts. Really dedicated people.
I don't know the details, but heard something along the lines of the two planners feeling like their idea to have a day camp got 'hi-jacked' by staff/employees of the local council office. And long noses put where they might get sore from being caught in a closing door. But ... no matter. They know it is All About The Girls.
So Monday morning, bright and early, I was down at the park, ready to be useful. Wearing my camp name; Pizza (you know, of course, that Everybody Loves Pizza, right?) We did games, we did songs, and more songs, and fingerplays, and went to the other end of the park to the playground, and did crafts, and did a STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) project which mysteriously changed a liquid (actually two mixed together) into a solid! We had snacks, and lunch, and rest time, and a hilarious, cheezy video, and more snacks, and general all around fun. Amusing, entertaining, energetic kids: about twenty (which at times seemed like four times that many...)
And four more days to come...
